RALPH E. WHITE: www.ralphewhite.com PRECAMBRIAN BANJO/KALIMA/MBIRA SHREDDER "...when Ralph White was entering the stage of life when he should have been assimilating his energy into the great American scheme of things he once more was saved by the great crookedness, severing this assimilation. This inspired him to learn the ancient music of what he thought was his roots on the fiddle. So he began exploring the precommercial forms of fiddle music. This took years. Taking the non-academic route in this endeavor meant traveling alone to strange places and playing on sidewalks for tips, making many sacrifices, but always discovering new layers of music. Also discovering that there's some sort of conspiracy to suppress the "crookedness" of music (and the crookedness of everything else also). This caused him to give up any romantic notions about cultural roots. About this time the banjo and kalimba presented themselves and the crooked energy began to be absorbed into this person in a new and exciting way"

DAVE AND WALKER FROM ARBOURETUM www.thrilljockey.com ASTRAL GUITAR AND ABANDONED BUILDINGS SINGING. "You may recognize the voice of Dave Heumann from his work in the Anomoanon or from performing in the bands of Will Oldham and David Pajo. Their debut for Thrill Jockey, Rites of Uncovering, is an utterly different beast, however. Toss it on and you'll hear prairie loner ballads march into acid-drenched guitar breakdowns, rounded out by mournful yet rousing campfire hymns"

THE PLACES www.highplainssigh.com SINGIN' AND STOMPIN' THE FRACTAL HIGH STEPPES BLUES. "The Places' Amy Annelle is a tough one to pin down. A 'brilliant desert troubadour with a dark and compelling vision' (Brian Baker, Amplifier Magazine), she lives on the road as often as not, touring and recording with friends, staying everywhere from a high desert trailer park to a flophouse on the Bowery, and picking up work as laborer, forest ranger and carny. Her maverick folk music, too, shies away from convention. Over the course of six acclaimed albums and hundreds of live shows, she's created a heavy, feral and beautiful body of work that "straddles the fence between the organic and the atmospheric" ( Rolling Stone). Her recently released sixth album (and fourth as The Places), Songs For Creeps ( High Plains Sigh) is a Billboard Magazine Critic's Choice/Ten Best Albums of 2006"

LONE BIRD www.myspace.com/lonebird ONE MAN CREATURE BAND ROVES THE LAND. "i enoy skinny skiing, . . . going to bullfights on acid. gismo. unamerican americana. ductape. old instrumentz. jb weld. instrumentz made from trash. vinyl. junk. cassette tape. creatures. analog recording equipment. strangers. duckbilled platypus. evan williams. puff the magic dragon. summoning the wizard on tour. children of damnation. weldwood contact cement. huevos rancheros. . ."

PETER AND THE WOLF www.whiskeyandapples.com ENIGMA, CHEATER OF DEATH AT SEA. " Red Hunter, who goes by the name Peter and the Wolf, has never been content to take a conventional approach to music. Known for his unusual word-of-mouth shows, Hunter has performed in graveyards, abandoned buses and, most unusually, an island only accessible by canoe. With an emphasis on the weird, unusual and forgotten, his musical ambitions are equally grandiose and romantic, breathing life into sounds of the past"~~Kathryn Yu, NPR

TENLONS FORT www.tenlonsfort.com FILMMAKER, HEARTBREAKER, A TIME WARP TO TOWNES' TEXAS. "Tenlons Fort is currently sitting in the Portland, Oregon airport. A bit nervous of flying, especially without the self medicating substances known as alcohol and/or xanex. A grilled veggie burrito was ingested to relax the musician, but it sits ontop of the anxiety instead of merging with the emotion. Tenlons Fort is currently boycotting all fast food resturaunts as McDonalds, Jack in the Box, Carls Jr, and Taco Bell, and is tryng to replace these institutions with the learning of Yoga and Meditation. The major label debut "Followed by Bad Luck" will be released in 2007, by a record company that will most likely stick us with a large balloon debt payment, crushing any hopes of recording again. Tenlons Fort loves recording and performing music and truely hopes to do so for a long time"

LANA REBEL www.juanitafamily.net SWEETLY DOOMED FREQUENCIES OF HONKATONK COUNTRY. "Lana Rebel (bassist for noise-rock band Last of the Juanitas) introduced Juanita Family and Friends as a venue for the stockpile of country songs she'd been writing on the side. Influenced by the great songwriters of the golden country era such as Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, and Lefty Frizzell, Her sweet melodies and simple guitar lines welcome you to come on in and make yourself at home. With a group of friends to back her up, the band independently released their self-titled CD in September of 2004. After playing rock venues, roadhouses, parties, crawfish boils, festivals, rodeos, radio stations, and street corners across the country, the family was invited to record a BBC One music session at the infamous maida Vale studios for Huw Stephens"

CHANEQUES VIAJARES www.999eyes.com ABSYNTHIAN ORIGINALS BY SAM AND DYLAN FROM "THAT DAMNED BAND". "The Dark Carnival Gypsy jug band that you brought home and kept you up all night playing music on your front porch and in your living room. You were so hung over that you missed work the next day, and didn't regret it one bit".
